What does a file timestamp show?
It connects a specific file fingerprint to a block timestamp. DeskTrust records the hash on the public Ethereum Classic blockchain.
Is my file uploaded to the blockchain?
Only the hash and DeskTrust identifier are recorded on the network. File contents, titles, filenames, and personal information stay off the blockchain. Storing a file copy in your organization is optional.
Does the record establish authorship or ownership?
No. The record documents a file fingerprint and timestamp. Authorship, ownership, and originality require supporting evidence. Learn about the scope of your evidence.
Do I need to understand cryptocurrency?
No. Use credits in the app. DeskTrust handles transaction submission and network fees.
How long does confirmation take?
The hash calculation depends on the file size. The record must then be included in a block and reach 15 confirmations. Network timing varies; the app updates the status automatically.
Can I verify the evidence outside DeskTrust?
Yes. Recalculate the original file's SHA-256, compare it with the certificate, and inspect the Ethereum Classic transaction and block timestamp. The complete packet also includes a standalone verifier for the preserved files and history.
Do my credits expire?
Credits expire 24 months after each purchase is confirmed. The app shows your balance, batches, expiration dates, and ledger. Each new record uses 1 credit.
What if I change the file later?
A changed version has a different hash and needs a new record. Keep the exact original that matches each certificate, even when newer versions exist.
